about

An album of folk arrangements, and folk-inspired songs for choir.

As a group, 'Glasgow Madrigirls' have always enjoyed singing a huge range of music - classical, medieval, world music, new music, sacred music and more. Over the years, we've included more and more folk in our repertoire and this CD is our pick of the best, from old stalwarts we've been singing for years, like 'Orra Bhonna Bhonnaghan' and the 'Rousay Lullaby' (most memorably on a boat halfway to Orkney...), to new favourites like 'He Shall Have the Bird'.

Madrigirls was formed in 2000 by co-directors Katy Lavinia Cooper and Catriona Downie while they were studying at the University of Glasgow. The group now consists of around 35 female undergraduates, postgraduates, alumni and friends of the University.
